Most Honorable LA Scotch Clubbers,
Those of us that know Scotch know that here is a very serious competitor from the east… Japanese Whisky. Japanese Whisky is basically Scotch that’s not from Scotland, much like sparkling white wine is the same as Champagne. Japan is probably the only country (England included) that can say that they are making Scotch-style whisky up to par with that in Scotland, and they’re starting to beat Scotch in the big competitions. Why didn’t you know this? The greedy bums kept most of it for themselves, that’s why!
Since this is a special evening with great whisky, we’ll be someplace special, Katana of West Hollywood. We’ll have the entire patio reserved for a special Scotch Whisky tasting. Our event will be co-hosted by Neyah White of Suntory who will be bringing the Yamazaki 12, Yamazaki 18, Chita Grain Whisky, Yamazaki Barrel Samples, and a bottle so wonderful (and expensive) that I can’t afford to even type its name.
Not to be outdone (although Neyah is making it difficult), the LASC will be tossing something of our own into the mix. We’ll have the rare and highly sought Hibiki 21, that we’ve had specially couriered from Tokyo. We’ll also have a rare Ichiro’s Malt – King of Hearts from Hanyu, a distillery that no longer exists. There’ll also be a Nikka 17 and a Nikka straight-from-the-cask. None of these bottles are available in America… it’s a special treat for those of us in the know, and you will know more because we’ll discuss the malts and distilleries of Japan, including the story of how a young Japanese man wandered Scotland hoping to learn the secrets of Scotch Whisky eventually became the father of Japanese Whisky. YOU’LL be the expert by Monday morning.
Don’t miss this one Drammer-sahn! (if you do, Godzilla will destroy your house)
